bio

Kindia du Plessis is a conceptual and community artist and educator working mainly in community centered work, video performance, and sculpture. Currently based in Utah, USA, she was born in Pretoria, South Africa and grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

She completed her BFA in Studio Art with an Art Education Licensure from Brigham Young University and MA in Art Education from the University of Cincinnati focused on community art education particularly for mothers. She cares about what brings people together or pushes them apart culturally, socially, geographically and believes art is a re-humanizing activity that heals and builds individuals and communities. She leads a local Mother Art Collective that collaborates on art projects and encourages each other’s arts practices.

Currently, she is the department manager/curator for the Bingham Gallery in the Fulton Library at Utah Valley University that houses Roots of Knowledge, a 40,000 piece stained-glass installation that depicts a view of human learning over time. There she directs educational programming for the university and the community related to Roots of Knowledge.
